Rangers player ratings v Fraserburgh: Starting trio 5/10 in comfortable win
Rangers eased their way into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Wednesday night with a comfortable 3-0 win over Highland League minnows Fraserburgh at Bellslea Park.
Graeme Murty’s much-changed side weren’t at their best against Broch but a hat-trick from Josh Windass booked the Gers’ place in the next round and a tie away to Ayr United.
Murty made six changes to the side which beat Ross County on Sunday as he looked to give game-time to some of his fringe players against a side four tiers below the Ibrox giants in the Scottish league pyramid.
A first-half penalty after a foul on Jason Holt gave the Gers the lead before two second-half strikes completed Windass’ first senior treble of his career.
Despite the atrocious conditions at Bellslea Park, the Light Blues remained professional and never looked in any danger of being on the receiving end of a shock – 59 years to the day after Fraserburgh pulled off arguably the biggest shock in Scottish Cup history when they defeated Dundee.
Murty’s side can now prepare for Saturday’s must-win Scottish Premiership clash with Neil Lennon’s Hibernian on Saturday as they look to secure second in the table.
