Rangers player ratings v Hearts: One player 5/10 despite win, MOTM gets 9/10
Rangers got their challenge for second in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-1 win over Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday – and Gers manager Graeme Murty will have been delighted with the reaction from his side after last weekend’s Scottish Cup humiliation.
Murty made four changes to the side thrashed by Celtic last weekend at Hampden with Jak Alnwick, Jason Holt, Josh Windass and Jason Cummings replacing Wes Foderingham, Greg Docherty, Andy Halliday and Alfredo Morelos in the starting XI.
The Light Blues were on top for most of the first-half as they probed the Hearts defence and enjoyed the overwhelming majority of possession and it was only an impressive performance from the Jambos’ defensive trio of Aaron Hughes, Christophe Berra and John Souttar that kept the scores level.
Craig Levein’s side were happy to sit in for long spells and try to frustrate the hosts force them into mistakes to capitalise on the counter.
After going in goal-less at the break, the Gers opened the scoring within 60 seconds of the restart when Jamie Murphy’s cross fell to Daniel Candieas and the Portuguese winger laid it on a plate for Jason Cummings to sweep the ball home and ease some of the tension hanging over Ibrox.

Daniel Candeias made it 2-0 just after the hour mark when his diving header rocketed into the top corner of the net and put the Light Blues in a strong position to see out the win.
Jut five minutes later though, Hearts gave themselves hope of a comeback when captain Berra headed beyond Alnwick.
Murty’s side managed to hold out for the win – and had chances to add a third – and set-up the possibility of Celtic winning the title in next weekend’s Old Firm clash.
