Rangers player ratings v Kilmarnock: Lundstram shines, 3/10 loses all five duels
Rangers provided their title hopes with a huge boost following their 4-1 victory over 10-man Kilmarnock on Sunday (5 April).
The Gers went behind when James Tavernier put through his own net on 12 minutes before goals from Fabio Silva, Ben Davies, Tom Lawrence and John Souttar turned things around at Ibrox.
The Light Blues enjoyed 74 per cent of the possession and had 40 shots during the game after Killie were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Joe Wright handled the ball in his own box, with Tavernier missing the resulting penalty.
Football Insider has analysed the Rangers players’ performances out of 10 against Kilmarnock.
PLAYER RATINGS
Jack Butland [5]
It wasn’t the best display from Jack Butland given the high standards he’s set. The goalkeeper rushed out of his goal too quickly for the Kilmarnock opener and was beaten before the ball bounced in off Tavernier. It was a reasonably quiet game for Butland after that as he made two saves throughout the afternoon.
James Tavernier [4]
It was a horrendous first half for Tavernier following his own goal and missed penalty. It couldn’t have really gone much worse for him. Although he won three out of his four duels and was more positive going forward after the break, he did give the ball away 15 times.

Leon Balogun [6]
Leon Balogun didn’t do too much wrong before being replaced at half-time. The defender made two clearances and one tackle, while he also recorded a 91 per cent pass success rate.
John Souttar [7]
A pretty solid showing from John Souttar. The Scotsman won 10 out of 14 duels to go alongside his goal right at the end of the game. He made two tackles, one block and one interception as he looked to step out of defence and give the Kilmarnock forwards little opportunity to have much of an impact on proceedings.
Borna Barisic [4]
Not an afternoon to remember for Borna Barisic. The Croatian left-back was a little bit sloppy for the Killie goal as he showed why he’s slipped down the pecking order at Ibrox. He also only won two of his five duels and was dribbled past once.
John Lundstram leads the way for Rangers midfielders
John Lundstram [8]
It was a typically energetic performance from John Ludstram in the middle of the park. The Englishman made two tackles, played five key passes and had four shots on goal. The midfielder was also extremely tidy in possession, recording a 92 per cent pass success rate.
Mohamed Diomande [6]
Mohamed Diomande also looked to get about the pitch alongside his midfield partner. The Ivorian wasn’t quite as successful, though, giving away possession 14 times and winning just two of his five duels. But he did play four key passes and blocked three shots for his side.
Dujon Sterling [4]
It wasn’t the best performance Dujon Sterling has shown for Rangers. The versatile player, who started in a wide midfield role, recorded just a 65 per cent pass success rate after giving the ball away 22 times. He was also only successful with one of his three dribbles and missed a big chance.
Todd Cantwell [4]
Todd Cantwell would have wanted to provide more for the Gers. Although he recorded one key pass and an 88 per cent pass success rate, he only won one of his four ground duels and lacked creativity. Just one of his six crosses found a teammate.
Fabio Silva puts in improved Rangers display, Cyriel Dessers struggles
Fabio Silva [7]
It was a much better performance from Silva than what he’s shown over the past few weeks. Alongside his crucial leveller, the Portuguese made three key passes and completed his one attempted dribble. Although he perhaps should have been more clinical in front of goal, the fact he had eight attempts shows he was feeling much more confident in his own ability.

Cyriel Dessers [3]
Cyriel Dessers continued to frustrate the Rangers fans. Despite his side dominating the possession and having so many attempts on goal, he only had one shot throughout the entire game. The Nigerian had just 29 touches and failed to win any of his five duels. He simply must do better if he wants to continue leading the line at Ibrox.
SUBSTITUTES
Ben Davies [7]
It was a solid showing off the bench from Davies. He popped up with the crucial second goal and won all five of his duels during his time on the pitch.
Ross McCausland [6]
Ross McCausland registered an assist and provided Rangers with something a little bit different in the final 20 minutes.
Tom Lawrence [7]
Just like his fellow substitutes, Tom Lawrence made a positive impact off the bench. His goal was the pick of the bunch at Ibrox.
Ridvan Yilmaz [N/A]
Ridvan Yilmaz had little time to make an impact.
Nico Raskin [N/A]
It was a similar story to Yilmaz for Nico Raskin as he came on for the final 10 minutes of the game.
In other news, Fulham, Sheffield United and Southampton plot raids to sign Ibrox star.
