Rangers plotting to sign striker with 17 French league goals this season – Ibrox Sources

Rangers are keeping tabs on Austrian striker Adrian Grbic as they assess potential Alfredo Morelos replacements, Football Insider has learned.

The Light Blues are braced for the possibility of Morelos leaving this summer amid widespread interest from clubs across Europe.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers director of football Ross Wilson is leading the hunt for centre-forwards and Grbic, 23, is among the half-a-dozen on his target list.

The former Austria Under-21 international is one of two France-based strikers targeted along with Bordeaux’s Josh Maja.

Grbic could prove a less complicated pursuit as his salary pales in comparison with former Sunderland star Maja’s £57,000-a-week deal.

The Austrian has made a big impact this season since joining Clermont Foot on a free transfer last summer.

He scored 17 goals in Ligue 2 from just 26 matches before the French season was terminated prematurely.

Like the controversial Morelos, Grbic also has a habit of getting on the wrong side of officials and has picked up six yellow cards this season.

Grbic has impressive pedigree as he has 19 Austria Under-21 caps and scored regularly at his clubs in his homeland as well as Germany and France.

This comes as Rangers prepare to slash the asking price for Morelos due mainly to the financial chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The forward was outstanding in the first half of the season, when he banged in 28 goals in all competitions but has netted just once in 11 matches since the winter break.

In other Rangers news, the £125m deal key to the Light Blues foiling Celtic can be revealed.
