Rangers profit from major injustice as Antonio Colak footage emerges – Hutton

Alan Hutton has suggested the penalty awarded to Rangers against St Mirren on Saturday (8 October) was “harsh”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said he was “surprised” to see a penalty awarded to the home side.

As shown on Sportscene (8 October), St Mirren centre-back Declan Gallagher fouled Antonio Colak inside the area and referee Nick Walsh awarded a penalty to the Bears.

As quoted by the Scotsman (8 October), Saints boss Stephen Robinson said Gallagher was “adamant” he got to the ball before Colak and insisted it shouldn’t have been a penalty.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side went on to win the game 4-0.

Hutton insisted the decision to award the penalty was unfair on the away side.

I kind of feel for Gallagher a little bit if I am honest,” he told Football Insider.

My first opinion was that it was harsh.

The flip side to that is, if you dive in on the inside of the box you are giving the referee a decision to make.

At first glance, I thought Gallagher got the ball and it was going to be a corner and then I was surprised to see a penalty kick given.

I do feel for him but ultimately if you are lunging in the referee is going to make a decision and the penalty was a given. But overall I do think it was a little bit harsh.
