Rangers player ratings v Dundee: One player 5/10 in comfortable win

COMMENT

Rangers returned to second in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-0 win over Dundee at Ibrox on Saturday as Aberdeen slipped to defeat at Tynecastle and allow the Gers to draw level on points.

In a drab game, Graeme Murty’s side ran out routine winners over the Dens Park side in the final league game before the split.

Kenny Miller and Jamie Murphy both hit the woodwork within the opening 20 minutes as the Gers pushed forward looking for an opening goal.

The Gers broke the deadlock with five minutes left in the first-half when Miller rifled the ball home from Murphy’s pass, just as Ibrox was starting to grow audibly restless with the scores level.

Neil McCann’s side started the second-half brightly as they looked for an equaliser but the Gers’ defence looked sharp to the Dens Park side’s threats.

The Light Blues never looked like they got out of third gear and looked like they had put the game out of sight when Alfredo Morelos made it 2-0 with a tap in after 68 minutes.

Ten minutes later Murphy wrapped the game up with the Gers’ third goal as Morelos forced a mistake from the Dundee defence before the 28-year-old slotted the ball home.

Daniel Candeias made it four in injury-time after Graham Dorrans’ bursting run forward then picking out Candeias who took his time to pick his spot and fire home.

The win will ease some of the pressure on Murty ahead of next weekend’s Old Firm clash as the Gers picked up their first win in four games with a comfortable – if uninspiring – win over the strugging Dees.
