Rangers receive new Cyriel Dessers transfer bid from ‘favourites to sign him’
Cyriel Dessers has edged closer to a last-gasp Rangers exit as the closing of the summer transfer window looms at Ibrox.
Russell Martin, who is already under serious pressure at Rangers, has been very honest about the future of his players, stating multiple times that the club have received bids for the Nigerian striker.
A new bid appears to have emerged in Scotland, just days after the confirmation of Hamza Igamane‘s big-money move to Ligue 1 giants Lille, but the Gers will not be left without firepower if a move does happen.
Djeidi Gassame, Oliver Antman, and Findlay Curtis have all added to the forward line so far this summer, with Bojan Miovski now joining the squad from Girona, as well as Everton’s Youssef Chermiti.
Dessers, on the other hand, has received mixed reactions from the Ibrox faithful. With 52 goals in 115 appearances, he has been a consistent figure for the Light Blues, but that might be about to end.
Panathinaikos submit new bid for Cyriel Dessers
Taking to X (30 August), Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos wrote: “Panathinaikos made an offer to Rangers for Cyriel Dessers, and are now the favourites to sign him.”
The 30-year-old striker has been nothing short of an absolute professional, even despite constant criticism from the supporters, but he might have already played his final game in Rangers colours.
With over a century of appearances since joining in July 2023, the majority of fans are likely to only miss what they had once he signs for a new club, which could potentially be before the transfer deadline.
Russell Martin to suffer further exits at Rangers
Football Insider verdict
Dessers might not be the only extra exit before the transfer window slams shut, with Rangers fans expecting Nico Raskin to depart after an apparent fallout with the manager.
The likes of Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz have already found new homes, though they have both been replaced by Max Aarons and Jayden Meghoma, amongst other arrivals.
If early signs are anything to go by, Martin needs several more signings if he is to turn things around at Ibrox, and that is even if the former Southampton man is given the time to do so.

He has won just 33 per cent of his first 10 matches in charge, being knocked out of Champions League qualifiers in that time, and slipping to seventh in the Scottish Premiership table.
The Old Firm derby is now looming at Ibrox, and if Rangers lose to Celtic, it could be lights out for Martin, who was only appointed as Barry Ferguson’s successor in June.
Brendan Rodgers‘ future at Celtic Park also appears uncertain, but that is more down to the lack of transfer reinforcements from the hierarchy than his abilities as manager.
