Kieran Maguire: Rangers have had ‘issue hanging over their heads as’ £2m fine confirmed
Rangers will be glad that legal proceedings over a price-fixing scandal dating back to 2018 are finally over even though they have been hit with a fine.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the sanctions imposed by the Competition and Markets Authority.
As relayed by The Scottish Sun on Tuesday (27 September), Rangers, JD Sports and Elite Sports have been found guilty of fixing the price of replica kits and other merchandise.

The charges date back to between September 2018 and July 2019, when Rangers were partnered with kit manufacturer Hummel.
The Ibrox club, who pocketed more than £28million in annual commercial income at the last count, have now switched to Castore.
The fines issued total £2m, with Rangers footing £225,000 of the bill.
Maguire claims that, although the Glasgow giants will be frustrated to lose the cash, they will be relieved that the long-running case has finally reached its conclusion.
“It’s seemed for some time that the price-fixing case was always going to go in the favour of the plaintiff,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“I suspect Rangers will just be relieved that they can now focus on other matters without this hanging over their head.

“It’s £225,000 that they would rather have in their own bank account than somebody else. But it could have been higher.
“They played a relatively minor role and I think that is reflected in the fact that they are paying just over 10 per cent of the total fines.“
