Rangers resigned to losing Goldson after confirmed transfer news – pundit
Rangers are resigned to losing Connor Goldson at the end of the season, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender delivered his verdict after Rangers confirmed a pre-contract agreement with John Souttar of Hearts.
The Gers revealed on Friday (14 January) Souttar had agreed a pre-contract deal and will move to Ibrox when his Hearts contract expires this summer.
Hearts claimed the same day in a statement that the Scotland international will only leave this month if a “significant and satisfactory offer” was made.
Goldson is also out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
The Daily Record reported at the end of last month (31 December) Rangers were preparing fresh talks with the 29-year-old.
Asked whether the move for Souttar hinted the Ibrox giants are resigned to losing Goldson, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes.
“You’ve always got to look ahead and plan for the worst. We’re not party to what’s going on behind the scenes and what’s involved.
“You have to assume that talks have been had but they haven’t been particularly great. There would have been murmurings that it was going to get done.”
Goldson has remained a key player under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and has not missed a minute of action under the new manager.

He has played 194 times across all competitions for Rangers since his £3million move from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018.
Souttar, 24, has 174 Scottish Premiership appearances under his belt for Dundee United and Hearts.
