Kieran Maguire: Rangers running ‘tight ship’ as two ‘indispensable’ Ibrox arrivals confirmed

Rangers have just made two new appointments to “indispensable” roles in their executive branch.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest boardroom developments at Ibrox.

Kenny Barclay has joined as finance director, while David Graham has been named communications director, as confirmed on 11 December.

George Letham meanwhile is set to step down from the board, though he will continue in an advisory role.

Former chairman Dave King, whose history with Rangers stretches back over two decades, has also launched a dramatic bid to rejoin the club.

Maguire claimed that the Scottish champions’ two latest additions are “absolutely critical” to their corporate success.

“Both roles are indispensable,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Clubs are fully aware of the importance of running a tight ship. You need a sensible budget that can avoid icebergs.

“That’s why you need a good finance director at a club like Rangers with what they are trying to do at the moment.

“Having good links between the boardroom and the fanbase is absolutely critical in terms of communication.

“If you can build up trust through a communications director, that can only work in the club’s favour.

Rangers

Rangers posted a loss of £23.5million for the last financial year despite winning their first league title in a decade.

They have estimated that an extra £7m will need to be pumped into the club to cover operating costs this season.
