‘Rangers make Kieran Dowell exit decision amid Josh Windass transfer news’

Rangers look set to part company with Kieran Dowell amid a major transfer update regarding former Bears star Josh Windass.

Dowell struggled for game time at Ibrox last season and consequently joined Birmingham City on loan in the winter transfer window.

The former Norwich City man helped Blues on their way to the League One title by notching five goals and four assists in 19 appearances in the English third tier.

But Russell Martin has already shown he doesn’t favour Dowell, as Rangers signed fellow attacking midfielder Thelo Aasgaard.

Rangers pave Dowell exit pathway amid Windass interest

Martin has already made key decisions in the transfer market this summer as he strives to close the gap between Rangers and bitter rivals Celtic.

Alongside Aasgaard’s arrival, the Gers have also welcomed the likes of Joe Rothwell and Emmanuel Fernandez.

Meanwhile, according to the Sheffield Star [9 July], Martin’s men are considering bringing Windass back to Ibrox.

The Scottish Premiership giants are training at St George’s Park at the same time as Sheffield Wednesday this week, giving them a key opportunity to have a look at the 31-year-old.

Adding Windass to their squad would see yet another attacking midfielder joining Martin’s ranks, demonstrating that Rangers are intent on facilitating Dowell’s permanent exit before his contract expires next summer.

Windass set to shine at Ibrox once more

If the Gers can beat other suitors to Windass’ signature this summer, they will acquire a player who can offer serious help in their quest to win the Scottish Premiership title for the first time since 2021.

Windass performed well for Sheffield Wednesday last term

The Sheffield Wednesday attacker previously shone for the Light Blues, scoring 18 goals in 41 appearances in the 2017/18 season before making a summer move to Wigan Athletic.

His transfer to the Latics did not go to plan, but since joining the South Yorkshire side in 2020, Windass has shown his goalscoring prowess, thriving in both League One and the Championship.

Windass scored 13 goals and produced a further five assists last term despite Sheffield Wednesday’s financial struggles, proving that he has what it takes to become a real asset in the Scottish Premiership once again.

Meanwhile, Ibrox News have exclusively revealed that Hamza Igamane is set to join French Ligue 1 side Lille after shining for the Bears last term.
