Kieran Maguire salutes James Bisgrove after Rangers bank £1m from ‘perfect’ announcement

Rangers commercial chief James Bisgrove deserves credit for orchestrating the “perfectly timed” roll-out of the third kit for 2022-23.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Ibrox club announced the launch of the orange strip on Tuesday (10 May).

The reveal came just four days after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side booked their place in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville next Wednesday (18 May).

The Daily Record reported on Saturday (14 May) that the Castore-made jersey has flown off the shelves and banked Rangers in excess of £1million already.

Bisgrove, who has previously worked as a Uefa Sponsorship Manager, has been Rangers’ top commercial director since June 2019.

Maguire saluted him for his commercial smarts and sense of timing.

We have seen quite a few clubs release their kits early this season,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“It’s an opportunity to increase interest. There is a lot of goodwill in terms of Rangers’ achievement in getting to the final. That encourages fans to want to buy merchandise.

“It is a logical thing to do, perfectly timed. James Bisgrove has his finger on the pulse with this sort of thing.”

Rangers

Rangers earned £10.7m in commercial income in 2020-21, the last full financial year on record.

They will also contest the Scottish Cup final against Hearts three days after the historic Europa League showdown in Spain.
