Rangers savaged for ‘disgraceful’ star player treatment

Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s decision to freeze Ianis Hagi out ahead of the season was a ‘disgrace’.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie is pleased to see the 25-year-old back in the fold at Rangers and believes ‘he’s the kind of player that can change games’.

The Romania international was forced to train with the reserves throughout the summer as the club tried to sell him for much-needed funds.

He has since made an explosive return, providing an assist for Vaclav Cerny before being sent off for a rash challenge in Rangers’ 2-0 Scottish Premier League win over St Johnstone.

Ianis Hagi can be a difference-maker for Rangers

Having spent last season on loan at Spanish side Deportivo Alaves, Hagi’s substitute appearance against St Johnstone was his first for Rangers in 14 months.

Hagi will miss the game against Kilmarnock as he serves his one-game suspension but could be a huge asset to Clement for the rest of the season.

“He’s brought Hagi back which was a disgrace that the boy wasn’t playing”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“I think he’s a good player, he doesn’t do it week in and week out but he’s the kind of player that can change games.

“That’s the kind of players you need and Rangers have not had that.

“Celtic, they’ve got it in abundance and Rangers haven’t had it for some time.

“To have a boy who’s got that and they’ve not played him is a disgrace for me.

“You’ve got to give credit it to him, he never said anything, just kept his head down, he never said he wanted to leave unlike the other one, Todd Cantwell.

“He just wanted to play for Rangers and you’ve got to respect that.

“He’s back in, he got sent off in his first game but he’ll get fitter.”
