Rangers fell to another shambolic Old Firm hammering on Sunday as Celtic were crowned Scottish champions for the seventh successive year – and managing director Stewart Robertson needs to explain what it is he does at Ibrox.
Robertson was in attendance with director of football Mark Allen as the Gers were smashed 5-0 and the Ibrox chief doesn’t seem to actually be having any impact on the direction the Gers are heading in.
The former Motherwell supremo has been at Ibrox for several years but with Allen taking much of the responsibility for the footballing side of things, Allen seems a bit redundant with everything having to go through chairman Dave King anyway.
Comparing him with his counterpart across the city is night and day and there can’t be many Rangers fans who wouldn’t want someone in the mould of Peter Lawwell running the club.
The Celtic chief executive might be a lot of things to Rangers fans – few of them publishable – but one thing that can’t be argued is he runs the Hoops very well.
Robertson on the other hand appears to be little more than a puppet for chairman Dave King.
With a massive overhaul of the playing and coaching staff already looks inevitable this summer, without a revamp of the club at executive level the Gers could be left aimlessly drifting into mediocrity for years to come.
