Kieran Maguire: Rangers in line for ‘lucrative’ payday after Ibrox reveal
Rangers are set for a “lucrative” payday during their 150th anniversary celebrations in March.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the official plans for the Weekend of Legends.
Rangers announced plans on Wednesday (29 December) for a one-off match at Ibrox between a Rangers Legends side and star-studded opposition XI.
Retired superstars Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Gheorghe Hagi and Robert Pires will star for the opposition side in the clash on 26 March.
The Rangers XI meanwhile will feature manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst and first-team coach Roy Makaay.
The Dutch duo will be joined by former Ibrox heroes Paul Gascoigne, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols, Sasa Papac and Nikica Jelavic.
Maguire predicts that the Rangers beancounters are ready to rake it in as they commemorate the landmark anniversary.
“Rangers will definitely want to market their 150th anniversary wisely so this makes a lot of sense,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“They can sell commemorative shirts, commemorative programmes for this match.
“You’d imagine most fans at Ibrox will be in good spirits and be prepared to cough up for them too.
“It will be a celebration of the 150th anniversary from the club and the fans’ perspective. But it should be lucrative financially for them as well.“

The club has announced ticket prices for the occasion, which will be followed by a “special dinner”.
Unibet has been named as the event’s official sponsor.
