Rangers set for seven figure bonus amid ‘big’ Calvin Bassey claim – expert

Alan Hutton has backed former Rangers star Calvin Bassey for a “big” Premier League move this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender suggested Bassey would be more suited to an English PL side than Rangers or Ajax.

According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, as relayed by the Sun (29 April), Ajax turned down a £20m offer for the 23-year-old from an English Premier League club.

The unnamed side is believed to be outwith the top five in the league.

Ajax rejected the offer as they believe the Nigeria international could be worth up to £35m in the future.

The Gers sold the defender to the Dutch club last summer for £19m and insisted on a ten per cent sell on fee if Ajax move him on and could be set for a seven figure bonus if he quits this summer.

When asked if Bassey is now ready for the Premier League, Hutton told Football Insider:He knows what it is all about having come from Leicester.

I know he did not really play but he knows what it is like to be involved in that kind of environment. I do not see why not.

He is definitely built for it, he has got the pace and the power. It seems like he hasn’t quite fit in with the way Ajax play. I saw that at Rangers a little bit, he was rough around the edges.

Maybe going in to the Premier League suits him as a player. He is so young, he is going to improve.

It is such a big move early on, so maybe that caught him off guard. But he has definitely got the attributes to make it down south.
