Ibrox source: Rangers set sights on signing Josh Stones ahead of Blackburn Rovers
Rangers have set their sights on potentially signing National League starlet Josh Stones, Football Insider understands.
The 18-year-old striker is making his name as a regular for Guiseley in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that the club are closely monitoring Stones after being alerted to his potential by their scouting network.
A host of English clubs, including Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic, are keen on the rising star, who is a member of the England schoolboy set-up.
Rangers talent spotters have been impressed by Stones’ development and how he has coped with senior football this season.
He has made 13 National League North appearances for the Yorkshire outfit Guiseley and scored one goal.
That came against Telford United last December.
Blackburn, managed by former Celtic boss Tony Mowbray, represent a significant rival to Rangers in the race.
They have a track record of developing top young talent and providing a pathway into their first team.
The Lancashire outfit are also pushing hard for promotion from this season’s Championship.

They are fourth in the division and only three points behind Bournemouth in the second automatic promotion spot.
Rangers are fighting to retain their Scottish Premiership title and also reach the Europa League quarter-finals.
