‘Rangers set sights on signing next Ivan Toney – I’m hearing…’
Rangers now have their head coach and transfer team in place ahead of an important summer window – with the “next Ivan Toney” likely to be among their first signings.
Russell Martin will be seeking quick backing from sporting director Kevin Thelwell as he bids to transform fortunes at Ibrox.
The Gers finished some 17 points adrift of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and endured a trophyless season as Philippe Clement was sacked mid-season.
Martin must now get his team in shape ahead of their Champions League qualifying fight next month.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed Peterbrough United star Kwame Poku, who ripped up League One in the 2024-25 campaign, is on the radar.

Rangers will target EFL stars, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he expects Rangers to be shopping in the EFL market.
Poku, 23, notched 12 goals and 11 assists in 31 games for the Posh in the 2024-25 campaign and is available on a free transfer this summer.
Football Insider revealed in April that Birmingham City have opened preliminary talks to sign the winger.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m hearing players like Poku, from Peterborough, are on the radar for Rangers.
“Everyone is claiming he is the next Ivan Toney sort of product from Peterborough, who have a good record.
“Martin and Thelwell will be shopping in the League One market, the Croatian market – those sort of areas.
“It’s a time-consuming process.
“Luckily, Kevin has experience of shopping in similar markets with Everton.
“But I’d say shopping for Everton and Rangers is completely different.”

‘Rangers eye sensational Eriksen move‘
Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly considering a sensational move to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer ahead of his imminent departure from Manchester United.
That is according to former Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who claims that the 33-year-old could be on his way to Glasgow.
His wages are also believed to be an issue, but if a compromise can be found and the club are willing to take a risk, it is a deal they have considered.
