Rangers must fight tooth and nail to keep senior man if English club come calling
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has found himself a possible contender to replace sacking Reading manager Jaap Stam – but the Ibrox giants should do everything they can to keep Murty at Ibrox beyond the end of the season.
Stam was sacked on Wednesday by the English Championship club with the bookies immediately installing Murty among the favourites to take the hotseat at the Madejski Stadium.
Murty is no stranger to the Royals after enjoying the best spell of his playing career there and captaining the side in the Premier League as he became a legend to Reading fans.
The senior man’s long-term future at Ibrox is up in the air with some wanting him replaced in the summer by a more experienced manager to push the Gers on to their first title since 2011.
Regardless of whether the former Scotland international is going to remain in the hotseat beyond May, the Gers hierarchy should be looking at how to keep Murty as part of the set up at Ibrox after impressing since arriving from Norwich in 2016.

The Gers boss has done a fantastic job with the young players at the club in his previous role as Under-20’s head coach and stepped up when needed – twice – to take the reins of the first-team
While there are definitely areas Murty needs to improve on, it is clear he has made a big impact on the players at Ibrox and has really bought in to what the club are trying to do – as well as bringing fresh ideas to the table himself.
If Reading do make a move to bring their former skipper back across the border then the Ibrox board should do everything to convince Murty his future remains at Ibrox.
