'Unbelievable' - Cardosa talks about pressure of Old Firm clash v Celtic
By James Black
Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso is looking forward to his Old Firm debut against Celtic next weekend – calling the derby “unbelievable”.
Cardoso is almost certain to start when Brendan Rodgers’ side visit Ibrox next Saturday and the 23-year-old has been brushing up on the 129-year-old derby by watching videos of old matches.
The Glasgow giants go head-to-head with Celtic sitting five points clear of their city rivals but Cardoso isn’t fazed by the prospect of starring in such a big game.
Former Benfica youngster Cardoso has never played in a derby and believes football needs more games like the Old Firm.
“I’ve been watching old videos – it’s a massive show, unbelievable, It’s from another world. It’s a really big, big derby,” Cardoso told the Daily Record.

“Football needs more games like this – the passion the people of Scotland show and our supporters give to us. My mum, my uncle, my girlfriend, they’re all coming over for it. It’s a big game, everyone wants to see it.
“And I’ve never played a derby before, not one. The derbies at home are only for the big teams. So I’m starting high with the oldest derby in the world.
“But I know what to expect because I see our fans every week – they’re amazing in every game.”
Cardoso joined Rangers from Vitoria Setubal over the summer and has become a key player for the Light Blues.
Alongside compatriot Bruno Alves, Cardoso has impressed fans with his performances since his £1.5million move.
The Gers dropped two points on Friday night in their pursuit of Celtic as they try and stop them from winning a seventh successive Scottish Premiership title and Cardoso believes his teammates will thrive on the pressure, telling the Daily Record: “There’s no extra pressure on this game though. It’s our life.
“We need that pressure.”
Before Celtic’s visit, Rangers face the short trip to Firhill for the second time in four days to take on Partick Thistle for a place in the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup.
Cardoso has been ever-present in Caixinha’s starting XI so far this season.
