Rangers reported move for Brighton attacker Jamie Murphy could prove to be one of the best deals of the transfer window if the Gers can make it happen.
The Daily Mail claim a deal is close to being agreed which would see Murphy swap the south coast of England for the south side of Glasgow and give the Gers some much needed quality and depth up front.
Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos has already shown himself to have been a fantastic signing with 10 league goals in 20 appearances but when you remove the 21-year-old from the equation, there’s not a lot left for Graeme Murty to work with.
Eduardo Herrera could come good but six months on from his arrival in Scotland, the big striker still looks to be struggling to adapt to his new surroundings.
Josh Windass has the odd good game here and there but with clubs sniffing around the former Accrington star his Ibrox future appears to be less than certain.
Murphy would bring experience of the highest level in both Scotland and England and give the Gers something a little different to what they already have.
He’s not likely to come up and start banging in 20 or 30 goals a season but Murphy can be the difference in games where Murty’s side have struggled to break down teams who come to Ibrox and simply defend in numbers.
At 28 Murphy is at the peak of his abilities and while he may have a little bit of ring rust to work off after being used sparingly by Brighton, there’s no doubt he’d be a quality addition to the Rangers squad.
