Rangers stadium latest is an ‘ absolute disgrace’ – McAvennie

Rangers announced on June 20 that they might be unable to start the new season at Ibrox because of material shipping delays, leading to significant question marks over where they will play and how the club got into this situation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie called the ongoing situation with Ibrox a “disgrace.”

The Gers are due to host Motherwell and Ross County in August, while they will also need to play a minimum of one home fixture in the Champions League, placing pressure on the club to resolve the situation.

It is still unclear exactly what the problems are with Ibrox, which has led to the club being on the target of jokes online among rival supporters.

Rangers’ fans will be the ones who suffer

A move to Edinburgh’s Murrayfield for the 2024-25 campaign might have to be the solution to Rangers’ problem with Ibrox, but the change will impact their fanbase because the stadiums are 47 miles apart.

“I feel sorry for the fans, they’ve been put through it, it’s an absolute disgrace” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“I’m talking about the proper fans, not the idiots who want to fight and all that; proper fans, I feel for them because they’ve been put through the mill.

Put down to the fourth division, put out the game, and coming back, fought their way back and getting back to that and then this, and that’s not going to be cheap.

“I think they might be looking for somebody to come in and do it for them.

Rangers

“You can all laugh about it and that kind of stuff, you know, ‘Rangers being Rangers,’ but I feel sorry for the proper fans over there; they don’t deserve that.

“No fans at any club deserve that because they pay their money, it’s the gift that keeps on giving for Celtic supporters.”
