Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday thinks Manchester City are the best team on Earth right now and thinks they are just “smashing teams” on their relentless march to the Premier League title.
Halliday thinks Pep Guardiola’s side are head and shoulders above their competition after recording the best start ever to a top-flight campaign in English football.
The Citizens are on course for a Champions League, Premier League and League Cup treble although were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wigan earlier this week.
Halliday admits there was “lots of questions” over whether Guardiola could replicate his success at City but the Gers midfielder believes the Etihad Stadium boss has answered them.
“I do feel as if I’m a bit of a football connoisseur. I do watch a lot of football,” Halliday told Rangers’ official podcast.
“There was a lot of questions asked about Pep and his philosophy because at Barcelona he has the best players in the world but Man City are the best team in the world.
“They’re just smashing teams.
“We’ve seen a lot of different teams set up a different way to try counter the way they play but anyone has quote worked it out yet.”
City face Arsenal in Sunday’s League Cup final and already have one foot in the last eight of the Champions League after a 4-0 first leg win over FC Basle.
Halliday spent five years playing in England and famously scored Bradford’s third goal in their 4-2 FA Cup win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in January 2015.
The Gers midfielder will be hoping to be involved when Graeme Murty’s side take on Hearts on Saturday in a must-win Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox.
Three points for the Gers would see them close to only six points behind leaders Celtic ahead of their trip to face third-placed Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.
