Injury expert fears Ryan Jack could be out for another ‘eight weeks’ after Rangers latest

Ryan Jack could be out for up to eight more weeks if his latest injury is managed incorrectly by Rangers.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst told the Daily Record on Tuesday (14 December) that Jack will be out until “after the winter break.”

The 29-year-old midfielder returned in November from a nine-month layoff enforced by a calf injury only to suffer another unspecified setback in training.

Dinnery told Rangers to manage the 10-cap Scotland international’s latest knock with the utmost caution.

“Rangers need to be careful with Ryan Jack,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It doesn’t matter how much work you do behind the scenes, you can’t replicate the cut and thrust of playing for the first team competitively.

“Players suffering soft tissue problems are particularly susceptible in the first 28 days when they are reintroduced to the rigours of competitive football.

“So this doesn’t come as any great surprise. It’s very, very frustrating for the player, but it’s just the way it is.

“You need to manage them so carefully. A setback that can keep you out for two weeks could easily turn into eight.

“So you always have to err on the side of caution when it comes to muscle problems.”

Jack has managed just three appearances, all as a substitute, in 2021-22.

Rangers hitman Kemar Roofe is also out injured and likely to return around the winter break.
