Rangers star John Lundstram ridiculed for what he’s done pre-Celtic – ‘Embarrassing’, says pundit

Rangers star John Lundtram’s conduct has been “embarrassing” this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie slaughtered Lundstram, 30, for “rolling about as if he’d been shot” after Jordan Obita’s tackle in the Gers’ 2-0 Scottish Cup win against Hibernian last month (10 March).

The defensive midfielder has been a key player for Philippe Clement’s title-chasing side this season, but as revealed by Football Insider (23 March), talks over a new deal have stalled despite Rangers offering him a new contract.

Lundstram, whose deal is set to expire this summer, has started 27 league games this season and has even bagged two goals and six assists in all competitions from the base of the Gers’ midfield.

John Lundstram has been “embarrassing” for Rangers this season

While McAvennie has not been impressed with some of Lundstram’s antics, he admitted that he will be a “big” player for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday (7 April).

“I like the boy Lundstram,” he told Football Insider.

“I had a bit of a pop at him when he got [Hibernian player Jordan Obita] sent off in the cup.

“He was rolling about as if he’d been shot.

“Lundstram makes big tackles but he doesn’t like it when people do to him.

“You know when you’ve tackled someone if you’ve caught them, and if you see them rolling about on the floor, it’s embarrassing.

“It’s just people trying to get other people booked – which I would never have done.

“But that’s today’s game.

“But Lundstram will be important this weekend [against Celtic] because he’s a big player for Rangers.

“People are talking about Abdallah Sima and different players, but Lundstram controls the midfield so he needs to be aware of Celtic’s midfield.”
