‘Nothing spectacular’ – Wilson makes surprise revelation about Murty in Rangers draw v Celtic
Rangers defender Danny Wilson has surprisingly revealed that then-interim manager Graeme Murty did “nothing spectacular” last time Rangers travelled to Celtic Park under him.
Murty was in charge when the Gers took a 1-1 draw at the home of their bitter rivals in March with Pedro Caixinha taking the reins the following day.
Clint Hill grabbed an equaliser for the Gers in their only game against the Hoops they haven’t lost since returning to the Scottish Premiership last season.
Wilson revealed Murty “put his trust” in the players and let them play their game despite having the Gers already having lost the previous two clashes that season.
“The manager did nothing spectacular before that Celtic game last March. He put his trust in us like he does now,” Wilson said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He set us up in the way we wanted to play where we felt we could affect them and we kept ourselves in the game for a long period that day and managed to get a point so I am sure he will have a game plan and we will have to try and implement it because we are the players who will have to go out there and do it.”
The Ibrox side lost five of their six games against Brendan Rodgers’ side last season as well as falling to defeat in the opening Old Firm clash this term.
A win for Rangers would be a huge result for the Ibrox giants and would give Murty’s side some momentum to build from going into the second-half of the season following the winter break.
The Light Blues will however have to contend with a number of injuries to key players with Ryan Jack, Lee Wallace, Graham Dorrans and Kenny Miller all set to miss the trip to Celtic Park on Saturday.
