Injury expert: Roofe ‘transfer value’ could tumble after Van Bronckhorst update at Rangers

Rangers hitman Kemar Roofe’s transfer value could tumble if scouting teams have access to his injury record.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Roofe missed Wednesday’s (15 December) win over St Johnson and has been out with an unspecified injury since the beginning of the month.

Rangers

Per the Glasgow Times last Sunday (12 December), a coy Giovanni Van Bronckhorst said: “We don’t know the exact injury or how long he’s going to be out.”

The Jamaican international, 28, recently missed a block of games due to an ankle injury, and he spent three separate spells on the sidelines in 2020-21.

And Dinnery claims that Roofe’s injury history could negatively impact his market value.

“Context is important,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Sometimes it can just be a little bit of an oversight. It’s easy to think the worst when the precise nature isn’t released, but that isn’t always the case.

“Most managers would prefer not to tell you when a player is injured and when they will come back.

“But when they are driven by the media, they have to be seen to be giving some kind of response.

“There are also some concerns about disclosure. Look at Gareth Bale during his time at Real Madrid.

“Bale told the club that it was against his wishes to disclose the precise details of any setback.

“In his view, it was his private medical history and it was covered by confidentiality.

“There’s nothing concrete to suggest that this is the case with Roofe, but it’s an interesting topic.

“But there may come a time when he wants to move on. Scouting teams will have access to his medical histories and it can affect transfer value.

“So non-disclosure may become more prevalent in the future.

Roofe has 10 goals in 20 games in 2021-22.
