Rangers star shines as 4/10 flops: Scotland player ratings vs Denmark
Scotland earned the first point of their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 0-0 draw to Denmark on Friday.
Steve Clarke’s men absorbed plenty of pressure from Denmark in the first half on 5 September, but they missed a key opportunity to score when Ryan Christie met former Everton transfer target John McGinn‘s cross, only to head it over the bar.
Therefore, the half-time score in Copenhagen was 0-0, while Angus Gunn had little to do between the sticks in the opening 45 minutes.
Scotland displayed more attacking intent in the second half than they had in the opening 45 minutes, but had to settle for a goalless draw in Denmark.

Scotland player ratings
Angus Gunn – 6
Scotland’s long-serving goalkeeper wasn’t too busy despite Denmark’s long spells of possession, but maintained his concentration well. The former Norwich man seemed to make a great double save late on, but both efforts were subsequently deemed offside. But he wasn’t overly confident when claiming crosses.
Aaron Hickey – 6
The Brentford man defended well when he was called upon, while he effectively joined the attack in the second half.
John Souttar – 8
John Souttar is a member of Russell Martin’s struggling Rangers side, but he made a great account of himself for Scotland against Denmark, seemingly having the answers to everything the hosts threw at Clarke’s side.
Grant Hanley – 7
The Hibernian man justified his selection with a solid defensive display, although he was outshone by defensive partner Souttar.
Andy Robertson – 7
Andy Robertson has struggled for game time at club level since Liverpool signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. However, the left back showed his class for his nation, attacking and defending well.
Scott McTominay – 7
Former Manchester United midfielder and Napoli star man Scott McTominay failed to show his creativity in the opening 45 minutes. However, he was a driving force as Scotland began the second half strongly and forced Kasper Schmeichel into making a save shortly after the interval.
Lewis Ferguson – 5
Lewis Ferguson helped Bologna win the Coppa Italia last season, but he failed to show that kind of class for Scotland against Denmark.
John McGinn – 7
McGinn was at the heart of almost everything Clarke’s side did in their flurries forward.
Ryan Christie – 4
The former Celtic man had a poor first half, as he was lively, but his end product left a lot to be desired. He fired an effort well over the crossbar before failing to direct a close-range header on target. Christie subsequently struggled to make an impact in the second half.
Lyndon Dykes – 5
Lyndon Dykes was too slow to pull the trigger when Che Adams squared the ball to him for a key opportunity to score, and saw his effort blocked.
Che Adams – 5
Like his strike partner, the former Southampton man couldn’t cause Schmeichel problems.

Substitutes
Max Johnston (for Hickey, 69) – 5
Scotland defender Max Johnston endured a shaky start immediately after being subbed on, as he found himself subject to a VAR check for a red card. But after the review, his handball offence was deemed worthy of the original yellow card call. He then grew into the game.
George Hirst (for Adams, 83) – 5
Ben Doak (for Dykes, 83) – 6
Bournemouth summer signing Ben Doak immediately showed the threat he can pose when his shot from a tight angle won a corner for his side.
Kenny McLean (for Christie, 83) – 5
