Rangers attacker Josh Windass managed to turn himself into public enemy number one for a section of Gers fans after shushing the Light Blues support following his goal in Tuesday’s win over Partick Thistle.
The former Accrington star was hauled in by manager Graeme Murty to explain his controversial actions and the 24-year-old will quickly discover there is only one winner when you fall out with the support.
Windass has come in from regular criticism from fans over his performances – despite scoring regularly – with many underwhelmed by his displays in games.
His decision to make the gesture to fans in the first place was one that left many scratching their heads but by then putting it on Instagram, Windass showed a staggering lack of awareness.
With fans already inconvenienced by the Partick game being re-arranged at short notice, the attacker’s petulant gesture was hardly crime of the century but doesn’t reflect well on a player who hasn’t come close to consistently performing well since arriving in 2016.
Windass even came in for some criticism from Murty after scoring a hat-trick against Highland League minnows Fraserburgh and the Gers boss will have been unhappy with such a public show of stupidity.
After attracting bids from the Championship last month – and a retweet of a comment from pop star Jessie J hinting at his desire to move on – Windass might just be trying to force his way out of Ibrox and following his shushing of them, there will be plenty of Rangers fans happy to see him go.
