£1.3m summer signing can salvage Rangers career after reported devastating blow

COMMENT
Rangers star Ross McCrorie faces the likelihood of spending the rest of the season on the sidelines and could need to undergo surgery, according to a report, but it could open the door for Ibrox outcast Fabio Cardoso to salvage his Gers career.
The report from the reliable Four Lads Had a Dream Rangers blog says McCrorie has failed to recover from the foot injury that has kept him out of action since December and could need an operation to finally solve the problem in a devastating blow for the player.
Cardoso has fallen out of favour since Pedro Caixinha’s dismissal in October but with McCrorie now looking like he’s out of the picture in the summer it moves the Portuguese one step closer to the first-team.
Bruno Alves has had injury problems throughout much of his time at Ibrox and it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see the veteran suffer one more injury before the end of the season that keeps him out for a few games at least.
Despite his axing from the side, Cardoso hasn’t become a terrible defender overnight and with the Gers shipping goals more frequently in the last few games could come back into contention.
After shelling out £1.3million for Cardoso from Vitoria Setubal, the Gers need to look to get some value from the 23-year-old whether it means keeping him long-term or giving him a shop window to earn a move elsewhere.
It’s unlkely he’ll displace David Bates or Russell Martin from the starting XI on a regular basis but with the Gers facing a crucial run of fixtures, Murty may need to get the most from his large squad.
