Kieran Maguire baffled as Rangers owners attack each other – ‘this is hostile’
It is “very strange” that Rangers would publicly attack Club 1872 given that they are official shareholders.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest drama behind the scenes at Ibrox.
Club 1872 owns 4.6 per cent of Rangers and are one of just 11 major shareholders in total.
They had agreed to purchase Dave King’s remaining 15 per cent until the relationship between the fans’ trust and former chairman broke down.
Rangers accused Club 1872 of launching a “propaganda war” in an extraordinary statement on Tuesday (22 March).
The official bulletin came after Club 1872’s calls to scrap a controversial Rangers-Celtic friendly set to be hosted in Sydney in November.
Maguire admitted he was baffled by the in-fighting between the club and its shareholders.
“Club 1872 are shareholders in Rangers,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“So it is very strange for a board of directors to come out with some fairly hostile comments towards those who ultimately partly own the club.
“It is clear that divisions run deep between the parties. Clubs tend to be more successful when everyone is rowing in the same direction.
“There appear to be some complications with Club 1872. They have lost a proportion of their membership as well.”

King has offered to pay the £3million the reigning Scottish champions would lose out on if they withdrew from the Sydney Super Cup.
Fans of both Rangers and Celtic have held protests over the friendly, which they believed violates the derby’s integrity.
