Jason Cummings makes fitness admission after Rangers win v Ross County

Rangers striker Jason Cummings has admitted he needs to build his match fitness up before worrying about forcing his way into Graeme Murty’s starting XI after netting his first goal for the Gers in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Ross County.
Cummings has made two appearances from the bench so far since completing his loan move from Nottingham Forest and admitted he was starting to tire towards the end of the win over Owen Coyle’s side.
The 22-year-old didn’t play regularly at Forest so will need some time to build his fitness back up although he could be given his first start in Wednesday’s Scottish Cup tie.
Cummings admitted he will “keep plugging away” and conceded that Alfredo Morelos was “banging them in” so had to bide his time.
“I am still trying to get my fitness. I was starting to blow at the end there so I am concentrating on getting my game fitness up,” Cummings told Sky Sports’ live coverage of the 2-1 win over Ross County, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“Obviously Morelos has been banging them in as well so I can’t complain that I am not starting yet.
“I will just keep plugging away, coming on and doing my best. Confidence has never been a problem for me.
“Even if I don’t score I know I will get chances, especially playing in this Rangers team.”
The former Hibs striker only jojned Forest in the summer after scoring 71 times in 149 appearances for Hibs but struggled to win a regular place in Mark Warburton’s side at the City Ground.
Following Warburton’s sacking on New Year’s Eve, Cummings chances looked even more limited forcing the striker to look elsewhere.
The once-capped striker joined the Gers until the end of the season although the Ibrox giants have the option to make it a permanent switch if Cummings impresses.
