Rangers strongest XI: Caixinha favourite axed, Scottish Lampard among multiple summer signings
Bruno Alves (centre-back)
In the eyes of many supporters, Rangers’ signing of the summer. Capped 93 times by Portgual, Alves remains a regular for his country and is comfortably the best known of the new arrivals. When it comes to knowing where to be and what to do when there, no Rangers defender can match the 35-year-old, who makes up for his lack of pace with experience and grizzled know-how. He can also play a bit, too. The centre-back will be a critical figure in holding the defence together this season and should help Danny Wilson and fellow new signing Fabio Cardoso take their games to the next level.
