Rangers suffer ‘big blow’ after Kemar Roofe update – ‘it’s not a good sign,’ says pundit
Frank McAvennie has insisted Kemar Roofe’s latest injury will be a “big blow” to Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said it is “not a good sign” when older players start picking up injuries.
The 30-year-old was forced off after putting the Gers 2-1 up against Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup semi-final last weekend (15 January).
Making his return after a long-term calf problem, the striker scored his first goal of the season before landing awkwardly on his shoulder.
As quoted by the Daily Record (20 January), Roofe is set to be sidelined for a month after his latest injury.
Michael Beale said the problem is “feeling better” and won’t require surgery.
McAvennie understands the disappointment for the forward.
“He will have been delighted coming back and scoring a goal,” he told Football Insider.
“Then getting injured, it is not good for a footballer. When you are coming back from injury you look forward to getting on the pitch and playing.
“He has got back on the pitch playing and got injured again. It is not a good sign.
“Once you start getting injured, it means you are getting older and it is a hard thing to shift. He is a decent player and it will be a big blow to Rangers that is for sure.“

The former Jamaica international has made just four appearances for the Gers across all competitions this season.
He has only played 82 minutes of football and has scored once in those outings.
