Rangers have tabled a £4million bid for Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report.
Turkish news outlet Sabah claims that Skrtel, 33, has met with Fenerbahce chiefs who have told him that he can leave the club if he wishes and now there is an offer on the table from the Gers.
Skrtel, a former Liverpool team-mate of Steven Gerrard, is not the only player that Rangers have reportedly made an offer for in the last few days as the Sun has reported that the Glasgow club has also made a bid of £4million for Oli McBurnie.
Football Insider verdict
Rangers are not ready to wait around it seems after yet another bid is reported to have been made, however this time, it’s not very believable. Skrtel is approaching the end of his career and there’s no way that the Light Blues would stump up that kind of money for him. The Slovakia international is a decent defender and is better than anyone currently at Ibrox, but £4million? No chance. Gerrard is going to be linked with a lot of Liverpool players and some of his former team-mates in the summer. Skrtel was one of the first to be mentioned as a potential signing at Ibrox after Gerrard was announced as the new manager, so he could still end up finding his way to Glasgow in the coming months. Fenerbahce chiefs may be fine with cashing in on the 33-year-old, but they will surely accept something lower than £4million as he enters the final year of his contract.
