Rangers Takeover Exclusive: Update today as advanced talks revealed
Rangers chiefs are likely to be valuing the club at around £150million as Ibrox takeover talks are advancing, sources have told Football Insider.
The Scottish giants’ hierarchy have been negotiations to sell a stake in the club for some time following their financial struggles.
The Record reported on Wednesday (19 February) an American consortium is in advanced talks to become the largest single shareholder at Ibrox.
Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe, who is in charge of 49ers Enterprises, is understood to be one of the key men behind the multi-million-pound proposal.
The investment arm of NFL team San Francisco 49ers currently holds a controlling stake in the English Championship club.
That would complicate any potential Rangers takeover as the Scottish Football Association’s rules on dual interest state any individual involved in another club must have the governing body’s consent before a deal can be completed.
However, Bournemouth owner Bill Foley received the necessary approval to purchase a 29.9 per cent stake in Hibernian for £6million last year.
Sources have told Football Insider an investment of that magnitude in Rangers would likely be worth around £45million, with club chiefs setting a £150million overall valuation.

Rangers could be set for massive injection after 49ers news
A significant investment would secure a majority stake at Ibrox, with former chairman Dave King currently the largest shareholder at 13 per cent.
It was confirmed earlier this week Rangers’ owners bankrolled a £3.6million injection after the club’s financial situation has been firmly in the spotlight over the past few months.
Although the Glasgow side’s revenue increased from £83.8million to a record-breaking £88.3million in 2023-24, their net losses surged by £4.1million to £17.2million across the same period.
Rangers could be set for a massive injection of transfer cash if the 49ers invest in the club after their spending power has been limited in recent years.
Bloomberg reported on Thursday (20 February) the 49ers, who are owned by the cash-rich York family, are exploring selling a 10 per cent stake at a valuation of more than $9billion (£7.1million).

Leeds United fans fume after Rangers takeover update
49ers Enterprises purchased an initial 15 per cent stake in Leeds in 2018 before completing its £170million takeover in July 2023.
The deal has seen some major figures invest in the Yorkshire club, with actors Will Ferrell and Russell Crowe as well American golfing stars Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth all making up part of the group.
Leeds fans have fumed at the Rangers takeover news after there have been some suggestions 49ers Enterprises could look to sell its shares at Elland Road to minority investor Red Bull.
Daniel Farke’s side are currently in line for a return to the Premier League as they sit top of the English Championship table, seven points above third-place Burnley.
Meanwhile, Rangers have faced several issues on the pitch this season, with Philippe Clement’s side 13 points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
