Rangers takeover: ‘Far East investor’ plotting Ibrox deal – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed a “Far East investor” is weighing up a potential takeover at Rangers.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted a “fresh start” with a “fresh executive team” is the way forward for the Ibrox club.
Rangers announced on Saturday (14 September) that chairman John Bennett has stepped down “with immediate effect for health reasons”.
The Glasgow giants are already without a CEO after the departure of James Bisgrove earlier this year.
Rangers have slipped further behind Celtic on the pitch after failing to qualify for the Champions League proper last month.
City AM claimed last month (27 August) that the Ibrox club are attracting takeover interest from American investors who value the club at around £150million.
‘Far East investor’ could bring ‘fresh start’ at Rangers, says Wyness
Wyness claimed another investor with existing links to the club is eyeing a deal.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think a fresh start is the right way forward.
“I know there is a Far East investor looking at Rangers right now.

“He’s already got links to the club, and if they can bring in another investor with a fresh executive team – that’s what the club really needs.
“They need that to rebuild properly.”
