Rangers threatening all manner of retribution amid huge BBC update

Rangers are threatening all manner of legal retribution if Celtic are declared champions without kicking another ball, Football Insider understands.

The Light Blues have thrown their weight behind Aberdeen’s proposal to play the campaign to a finish behind closed doors and avoid handing their bitter rivals an immediate ninth consecutive league title.

Rangers have made no attempt to play down their feelings or hide their desire to push the league officials into what they insist is a fair and proper end to the campaign with all fixtures played.

Behind the scenes, Ibrox sources have told Football Insider the club’s top brass are relentlessly putting pressure on executives at the SPFL and the relevant ruling bodies.

Football Insider first revealed on 4 April that Rangers were planning legal action against plans to end the season prematurely, which the club substantiated in a statement on 16 April.

The 54-times league winners are said to be continuing to threaten strong and swift legal action if the season is ended prematurely.

This comes amid the backdrop of a major BBC Sport update today claiming Government plans to hold talks over the next week with medical directors of major sports to help speed up a return to action “within weeks”.

The SPFL board can end the top flight prematurely after its resolution to end the lower leagues was passed by clubs last week following a bungled vote.

Chief executive Neil Doncaster is currently biding  his time before responding to the Pittodrie proposal that is fully backed by Rangers.

UEFA are calling for domestic campaigns to be restarted but have stepped back from threatening to punish smaller countries with European bans.

This paved the way for Holland to terminate their campaign without any comeback.

In Scotland, that would see Celtic crowned champions, Hearts relegated, Rangers forced to settle for second place and the Europa League, and Aberdeen missing out to Motherwell for the other European slot.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on goalscoring Premier League midfielder, with two offers submitted.
