Rangers tipped to agree Arfield deal after ‘surprise’ move – pundit
Frank McAvennie has suggested Rangers will hand Scott Arfield a new one-year deal before his current terms expire.
The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has been surprised by the midfielder’s return to the Gers side.
Arfield’s Rangers contract is set to expire at the end of this season, bringing an end to the Canada international’s four-year stay at the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports (10 December), the midfielder revealed he is keen to stay at Rangers, insisting he is “happy” at Ibrox.
Arfield, 33, can speak to other clubs about a free transfer when the transfer window opens on 1 January.
McAvennie claims it would be sensible for the Gers to offer Arfield a one-year contract.
“He’s come back in under Van Bronckhorst, hasn’t he?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That’s a surprise move we have seen since he came in.
“I have said this so many times. Rangers have too many of these midfield players.
“They signed a few in the summer and Arfield couldn’t get in ahead of them.
“I do wonder if Rangers were planning for him to go but now all of that has changed now.
“He’s playing and Rangers are in brilliant form so I wonder if Rangers will look to give him a new deal.
“Even a one-year deal to help ease the transition between Gerrard and Van Bronckhorst.
“I think that’s sensible.”

Arfield was once again named in the starting side to face Dundee United on Saturday (18 December).
The Gers won all four of those games.
