Rangers tipped to negotiate cut-price Souttar fee after six-figure transfer update – pundit
Alan Hutton has tipped Rangers to negotiate a cut-price deal to sign John Souttar from Hearts this month.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit insisted it would be “money well spent” if the 25-year-old helps the Glasgow giants to the Premiership title.
As reported by the Scottish Sun on Monday night (17 January), Hearts are demanding a £500,000 fee for the Light Blues to sign Souttar this month, with manager Robbie Neilson admitting a deal could be done.

The defender has already agreed a pre-contract deal to join Rangers this summer.
However, Hutton suggested the two clubs should be able to strike an agreement that sees him move this month.
“It is quite a lot of money for somebody who’s coming on free at the end of the season,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“But I think there’s probably some leeway within that. There will be some deal to be had. If both sides can come and meet in the middle, that would be good.
“Really, if he comes now, for whatever the fee may be, and he does solidify that defence or make it stronger, there’s more competition for places.
“If Rangers do go on to win the league then it’s money well spent in my opinion.
“I think it will happen in the next two weeks. It’s just about deciding on the fee and what it’s going to be.”

Souttar has been a mainstay for Hearts this season, with 23 appearances under his belt so far.
Rangers currently have Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, Calvin Bassey and Filip Helander as their senior centre-back options.
