Rangers tipped to receive 'a lot of compensation' after source's update on Gerrard move to Aston Villa - pundit
Aston Villa have “great foundations” as a club and have the squad to give Steven Gerrard “instant success”, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Midlands club will be a “tempting proposition” for the 41-year-old Rangers boss.
This site exclusively revealed today (November 9th) that Gerrard is ready to tell his current employers that he wants to become the new Aston Villa manager.
A source with knowledge of the Gers manager’s situation has told Football Insider he is now planning to deliver the bombshell news that he wants to head south of the border.
This site also updated yesterday to reveal that Gerrard’s long-term dream of managing Liverpool is likely to remain on the backburner until 2024.
Whelan insisted Aston Villa would have to pay Rangers “a lot of compensation” should they appoint the Anfield icon.

“These jobs aren’t going to come around very often,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Aston Villa as a club have great foundations which have been left by Dean Smith. It will be a very tempting job, I’m sure, for Gerrard and his backroom staff.
“They will know that Villa have the players to give them instant success at the club.
“If he does leave Rangers, it will be a lot of compensation. Rangers will not want to lose him.
“It’s a tempting proposition, but there’s just the question of leaving Rangers in the midst of this title fight. It’s a rare opportunity for him to take that step into the Premier League.”
Gerrard won the maiden trophy of his managerial career last season with a historic Scottish Premiership title.
Aston Villa dispensed with former boss Smith after a run of five straight defeats left them 16th.
