Rangers tipped to seal £40m windfall after Goldson update – pundit
Alan Hutton has backed Rangers to land a Champions League bounty by not selling Connor Goldson this month.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the potential windfall would be much greater than the “few million” they might get cashing in on the 29-year-old in the January window.
As reported by the Daily Record last Friday, (31 December), Rangers are not planning on selling Goldson despite his contract situation.

The defender is into the final six months of his deal at Ibrox.
The winners of the Premiership are guaranteed a place in the Champions League play-off places next term.
However, they could automatically qualify for the group stages if this season’s Champions League winners also qualify via their domestic league.
As explained by Football Insider‘s finance guru Kieran Maguire, entry into the Champions League group stages is worth “a minimum £40million”.
Hutton insisted the riches on offer in Europe far outweigh what Goldson’s sale could raise.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It shows where they’re at the moment. Looking at the bigger situation, it’s the league title.
“How much this means to Rangers to actually go ahead and win it. They’re not willing to sacrifice their top centre-back for the sake of a few million.
“That’s where they’re at at the moment. Going into the Champions League brings in so much money to the club moving forward. They probably see it as worth the risk.
“I don’t think it’s ideal, letting the contract rundown and letting him leave for nothing.
“It’s a difficult situation. I always believed, for me personally, I would want my future all sewn up and taken care of. Then I could just concentrate solely on my football.
“But they’re willing to take the risk of using Connor Goldson to win the league and get into the Champions League.
“Then if he wishes to leave, so be it.”

Goldson has been a mainstay for Rangers since joining from Brighton.
He has 193 appearances under his belt for the Gers.
