Rangers tipped to snub Dave King and sell to ‘big investor’ – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Rangers need a “big investor” to buy the club after John Bennett’s departure as chairman.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Gers need a “fresh start” after Dave King expressed his interest in returning to the role.
Rangers announced on Saturday (14 September) that chairman Bennett has stepped down “with immediate effect for health reasons”.
Ex-Gers chairman King has said he is “available” to return to his former role and claims the club is “in crisis”.
City AM reported last month (27 August) that Rangers are attracting takeover interest from American investors who value the club at around £150million.

Wyness suggested the Gers need a “benefactor” after their recent struggles on the pitch.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I keep hoping that Rangers will find a benefactor.
“Someone with no history who can get in there, shake everyone up and say calm down.
“They need to act as a proper football club and build things on basic football principles.

“Dave King has thrown his hat in the ring but I think it should be a big investor who comes in and sees the opportunity.
“I think a fresh start would be the best thing for everyone concerned.”
