Rangers ‘to appoint ex-Man United exec’ as major Ibrox moves arrive
Rangers are poised to appoint former Man United executive Patrick Stewart as their new CEO, according to Rangers Review.
That is one of two behind-the-scenes appointments the club are due to make, with Malcolm Offord also expected to arrive as chairman.
A former member of UEFA’s marketing agency, Stewart took on a role within the Red Devils’ legal team in 2006.
He also stepped into a position as interim CEO at Old Trafford in November last year, before departing the club at the end of last season.
Stewart now looks set to get back into football, with the expectation he is set to become the new CEO at Rangers, filling the role left vacant since James Bisgroves’ sudden exit to the Saudi Pro League.
Offord is set to take over at chairman at Ibrox. The businessman, who is currently a member of the House of Lords, is also expected to take on a key role with the ‘Gers.
New off-field appointments are vital for Rangers

It does feel extremely important to the club that they have made these appointments for the set-up off the pitch.
The departures of Bisgrove for the Middle East, and chairman John Bennett on health grounds, have left big voids in the setup at Ibrox, with temporary chairman John Gilligan having to chase replacements for both roles, and it looks like he has now found them.
A consequence of that is likely to have been the underwhelming summer the club had in the transfer window, which has contributed to the ‘Gers’ poor start to the campaign, but with these two figures now coming in to fill those roles the responsibilities can be spread out more among those working at Ibrox.

That should mean the club are much better prepared for the January transfer window and beyond, which they hope will put them in a better position to compete with Celtic, and Aberdeen, moving forward.
It will also be interesting to see what this might mean for the future of manager Philippe Clement given that poor start to the season, with more points dropped at home to Dundee United earlier on Saturday, and this influx of some badly-needed new ideas.
With all that in mind there should now be a fair few more changes to come at Rangers, starting with these new appointments who need to show they are the right men for the job as quickly as possible.
In other news, Rangers’ chances of beating Celtic to the signing of Lennon Miller have become clearer.
