Rangers to hold Oscar Cortes transfer talks – sources

Rangers are likely to hold talks with Oscar Cortes about turning his loan deal from Lens into a permanent transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Rangers are considering signing Cortes despite him not making as much of an impact as the likes of fellow Ibrox loanee Abdallah Sima.

The Gers hold an option-to-buy clause on the Colombian international, but it’s unclear whether he’s reached the performance-related targets required to automatically trigger the deal.

Football Insider previously revealed the Glasgow club would hand the 20-year-old a four-year contract, which includes a “huge” pay rise, if he impressed during his loan spell at Ibrox.

O’Rourke suggested Philippe Clement will be reviewing his budget before deciding whether to sign Cortes this summer.

The winger is under contract with Lens until 2028 after signing a five-year deal with the French club when making his £4million move from Colombian side Millonarios last year.

Rangers could sign Oscar Cortes on permanent deal

It hasn’t been the most convincing loan spell for Cortes at Rangers, having scored just one goal and laying on two assists in his seven appearances.

The Colombian missed the final few weeks of the Scottish Premiership season with a muscle injury, with Celtic going on to claim the title.

O’Rourke revealed the Gers will be weighing up whether the finances are there to sign Cortes and still allow them enough room to bring other targets through the door this summer.

Rangers

Football Insider revealed Ibrox chiefs are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal for Fabio Silva after the forward has failed to impress during his loan spell from Wolves.

There looks set to be a significant shake-up of the Light Blues’ squad this summer after Clement has revealed he is planning a “big” rebuild as he looks to put his side in a better position to compete with Celtic for the title next season.

In other news, John Lundstram now expected to leave Rangers after “whispers”.
