‘Rangers to sign Greg Taylor from Celtic’: ‘Huge’ update
Rangers have been backed to make a move to sign Greg Taylor from Celtic at the end of the 2024/25 season despite the complications involved in crossing the Old Firm rivalry.
The left-back initially came through the youth ranks with the Ibrox club, before joining Kilmarnock in the summer of 2014.
After five years at Rugby Park, Taylor then departed to join Celtic in September 2019, but his contract with the club is due to expire in the summer.
That has since led to discussion about the possibility that Taylor could sign for Rangers from Celtic on a free transfer when the campaign comes to a close.
Now, Michael Stewart has claims that the ‘Gers ought to get the deal done to secure the services of the 27-year-old, believing it would be a major boost for the club for multiple reasons, with his status as a Scotland international seen as a “huge asset”.

Amid that speculation of a potential move to Ibrox for Taylor, Stewart feels it is a move that Rangers should pursue, even if he is unsure how the player would feel about it.
The former Hearts and Hibs man has claimed that he had previously been surprised not to have seen any links between Taylor and the ‘Gers in the lead-up to the summer.
He also went on to claim that as a Scottish player, the left-back would be a “huge asset” for what is currently Barry Ferguson’s side, given the present options at the position.

Stewart says Taylor would be a better option for Rangers than their current left-backs, Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz, while the fact he is Scottish could be a crucial selling point.
Speaking about the possibility of the Ibrox club signing the Celtic left-back in the summer, the ex-midfielder said on Premier Sports: “I actually floated this idea, was it two or three weeks or go Huts [Alan Hutton]?
“We were at one of the games, I actually mentioned it and I thought to myself, ‘surprised it hasn’t been mentioned before’.
“Then it’s obviously popped up in the press now. From a Rangers perspective, yes I would, I would.”
After Hutton then asked if Stewart could see it happening as he cannot, Stewart continued: “I don’t know what Greg Taylor will be thinking but from Rangers’ perspective, it’s a free transfer, he’s in the Scotland squad, so it’s another Scottish player which is a huge asset, he’s a quality player.
“I don’t know whether Greg Taylor would be interested but if you’re Rangers, for me he’s better than Jefte, he’s better than Yilmaz so I would do it.”
Celtic man to be a useful addition at Ibrox
Football Insider Verdict
Rangers will inevitably be desperate to close the gap on Celtic next season, after another campaign where they have struggled to challenge their rivals in the Scottish title race.
Given the pedigree that Taylor has developed for enjoying such success, he could certainly help to push the Ibrox club on to the next level from the 2025/26 campaign.
Jefte has endured some difficult games for Rangers over the course of this season, not always impressing as much as would be hoped.

Meanwhile, Yilmaz has also found it difficult to win over the Rangers fans amid speculation around his future with the club.
That may mean there will be a need for a new left-back at Ibrox, and Taylor could well be an improvement on that side of their defence, albeit one that comes with a lot of strong feeling along with it as a long-time Hoops player.
As a Scottish player available on a free transfer, there are plenty more reasons why this would be a useful deal for Ferguson or any other potential Rangers manager to get done.
