Rangers told to complete ‘perfect’ Jonny Evans deal – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man United veteran Jonny Evans would be the “perfect” signing for Rangers this month.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested there is some doubt as to whether the Gers can afford to sign the 37-year-old.
According to the Daily Record (6 January), Evans has been suggested by the Rangers board as a “possible transfer option” for this month.
However, it is claimed the Northern Ireland international’s age has put manager Philippe Clement off the idea.
Evans has made 12 appearances for Man United in the 2024-25 campaign, including six starts.
He is under contract at Old Trafford until the end of this season.
Evans deal would be ‘absolutely ideal’ – if Rangers can afford it
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It would make a lot of sense if they could do it, but I think it may be beyond their financial capabilities.
“It would be a perfect signing for the dressing room, his experience – it would be absolutely ideal.
“I just don’t see it happening in terms of resources.

“Unless the new chairman has brought in a mystery funder, then yes, Evans would be great.
“But still, it’s only one signing. It’s got to be part of a much bigger picture at Rangers.”
