Rangers told to ‘get their act together’ as near-£2m news confirmed – pundit

Frank McAvennie has told Rangers to “get their act together”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said that the legal battle with the Sydney Super Cup organisers is harming the players.

As reported by the Rangers Review (29 November), the Light Blues are countersuing the organisers of the Australian tournament who are taking action over the club’s withdrawal from the event.

The event organisers in Australia claim that the friendly matches against Celtic and Western Sydney Wanderers were terminated wrongfully by the Ibrox club and are seeking £1.6million in compensation.

The Gers are now raising a legal counterclaim for breaches of contract on the part of the organisers.

The Bears pulled out of the tournament less than a month after the announcement that the Glasgow rivals would face off in a friendly tournament down under.

The club cited issues with the organisers of the event as the reason for their withdrawal.

McAvennie claimed the legal battle will have a negative impact on the players.

What a lot of nonsense that is,” he told Football Insider.

You would think that Rangers would just learn to go with things. The only reason they never went to Sydney was because of Ange Postecoglou. That was the only reason, because it was branded his homecoming.

If I was the manager I would have said to let them go and beat Celtic. But they did not want that.

Rangers

It can’t be doing the players any good. I know when I was at Celtic before the board got ousted it was horrible. When you go on the pitch you don’t think about it but all week it is never out the papers.

It is just a horrible situation and the club should get their act together and sort things out.
