Rangers transfer news: Middlesbrough and Birmingham in last-gasp moves for Jack Simpson – Sources
Middlesbrough and Birmingham City missed out on deadline-day deals for Rangers defender Jack Simpson, Football Insider understands.
The Glasgow giants were willing to let the centre-back, 25, move on before Monday’s transfer deadline.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Boro and Birmingham made contact with Rangers about late-window deals for Simpson but both left it too late and ran out of time to reach an agreement.

The former Bournemouth man will now end up staying at Ibrox until the end of the season.
A summer transfer is likely given how low he is in the senior centre-back pecking order at Rangers.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are set to be boosted at the back with the return of Filip Helander from injury.
They also have Connor Goldson, Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun, who has been on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria.
Rangers have also planned for the future by signing John Souttar from Hearts on a pre-contract.
Simpson has struggled to make an impression since arriving from Bournemouth in January of last year.
He has made only 12 appearances for the club, five of which have come this season.

That includes only three starts, two of which came in the cup competitions.
Simpson hasn’t featured at all under Van Bronckhorst although he has been a regular on the bench since the Dutchman took over at Ibrox.
