Rangers transfer news: Wyness adamant about ‘big-money’ Lawrence Shankland deal this summer
Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has insisted a Rangers move for Hearts hitman Lawrence Shankland would not cost “big money”.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004 as well as having lengthy spells as chief of Everton and Aston Villa, and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the 28-year-old is “getting on a bit” and wouldn’t be classed as a “marquee signing” for the Gers.
Shankland has been widely linked with a potential switch to Rangers and made attempts to land the Hearts talisman mid-season.
Football Insider revealed on 26 January that Philippe Clement’s side were ready to make late bid to land the Scotland international in the winter window but Hearts were not willing to sell him mid-season.
Rangers have continued to keep tabs on the forward and are expecting to make another move for him in the summer.
‘Shankland will not cost Rangers big money’, says Wyness
Shankland has hit 27 goals in 38 games for the Edinburgh club this season as they sit third in the Scottish Premiership.
He is under contract at Tynecastle until May 2025 after arriving from Belgian side Beerschot in 2022.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Shankland would not cost big money.
“He’s getting on a bit, even if he has been a fantastic scoring machine. He’s previously moved around for £1-2million – not big numbers.
“That sort of player, you can get one or two good seasons out of him.
“I wouldn’t call him a marquee player, necessarily.

“They’ll go out and get the players Clement wants because I think he’s got a good eye for a player.
“I think it’s time Rangers back the manager they have and invest as best they can.”
